Discover how we are driving innovation in offshore wind asset integrity monitoring
Mooring systems in offshore applications primarily use chains to connect floating platforms to anchors. However, these systems are vulnerable to corrosion and fatigue, leading to expensive failures. While direct mooring load measurements are typically preferred, they are often unreliable. This paper – presented at the OMAE2024 conference in Singapore – presents BMT’s robust and cost-effective Mooring Condition Monitoring System for offshore floaters, that can be widely deployed and can monitor the mooring line loads in near real-time.
This system consists of primary reliable sensors that include redundant Differential Global Positioning System units, tri-axial accelerometers, and angular rate sensors. These sensors are low-cost and do not interfere with the mooring system operation. The measurements from the system are accessed and post-processed through our analytics platform, BMT DEEP, harnessing the benefits of Digital Twin technology. The platform ingests and synthesises data from multiple sources into a common time reference and allows the dashboard to be securely accessed over the cloud.
